A urologic catheter is used to drain and collect urine from the bladder when a person cannot do so independently. They can be made of different types of material, such as silicone, latex, or polyurethane, and may also come pre-lubricated or require additional lubrication. Catheters also vary in length to accommodate the different urethral lengths between ages and genders. Many different health conditions lead to the need to use a catheter, such as urinary incontinence, surgery, spinal cord injury, or an enlarged prostate, to name a few.
